On-board security

Date: 04/04/2007

At SASMEX 2007 held at the Brighton Metropole, April 24-25 2006, we made a presentation detailing some of the many types of non-lethal security equipment available on the market today and currently in development.

Acoustic devices, electric fences and fire hoses have all been proposed as effective security systems. These were discussed along with what else is available and how effective they are in deterring, preventing and responding to security threats.

The presentation examined some of the methods that can be used to efficiently and effectively protect vessels and crew from unauthorised access. From a uniformed presence through to some of the high tech devices as well as an overview of some of the more ‘low tech’ solutions that can be used.

The objective of the presentation was to illustrate that the use of lethal force is the absolute last resort and before even considering it, the threat should be identified, advice sought on considering the importance of layers of security and all non-lethal alternatives researched.

The presentation is being made available on request by email to info@securewest.com  or telephone +44 (0)1548 856001 to request a copy.
