Weekly Maritime Incident Summary 13 – 19 May 2025

The Securewest International Maritime Assistance Centre (MAC) recorded 20 maritime related incidents during the reporting period of 13 – 19 May 2025. The following incidents were recorded:

  • 13-MAY-25 Drugs Interdiction – More than a ton of cocaine seized off New South Wales, Australia.
  • 13-MAY-25 Boarding – Underway bulk carrier boarded 5nm northwest of Semakau Island, Singapore.
  • 13-MAY-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 292 migrants intercepted in the English Channel.
  • 14-MAY-25 Drugs Interdiction – Suspected drug smuggler intercepted in Eastern Pacific Ocean.
  • 14-MAY-25 Robbery – Underway bulk carrier robbed in the Singapore Strait.
  • 14-MAY-25 Attack – Seven boats destroyed at the pier in Puerto el Morro, Ecuador.
  • 15-MAY-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 15 migrants and suspected smuggler intercepted off Aydin, Turkey.
  • 15-MAY-25 Approach – Underway container vessel approached by military craft in Persian Gulf.
  • 15-MAY-25 General Security Warning – Underway container ship experiences GPS jamming off Salalah, Oman.
  • 16-MAY-25 Boarding – Bulk carrier THALASSINI AVRA boarded in Singapore Strait.
  • 16-MAY-25 Attack – Merchant vessel damaged at Port Hodeidah, Yemen.
  • 16-MAY-25 Drugs Interdiction – Over $400 million worth of narcotics intercepted in Indonesia.
  • 17-MAY-25 Migrant & Refugee Incident – 74 migrants and suspected smuggler intercepted off Mulga, Turkey.
  • 18-MAY-25 General Security Warning – GPS Interference in the Straits of Hormuz.
  • 18-MAY-25 General Security Warning – Tanker detained by Russian authorities in the Gulf of Finland.
  • 18-MAY-25 Migrant & Refugee Incident – 23 migrants and suspected smuggler intercepted off Mugla, Turkey.
  • 19-MAY-25 Attack – Drone strikes reported on the Port of Sudan, Red Sea.
  • 19-MAY-25 Boarding – Tanker boarded in the Singapore Strait.
  • 19-MAY-25 Migrant & Refugee Incident – 92 migrants and suspected smuggler intercepted off Edirne Turkey.
  • 19-MAY-25 General Security Warning – Armed clashes in the area surrounding the port of Tripoli.
