Case Study

Tanker Maritime Security

The Challenge

The world’s largest chemical tanker operating in the Gulf of Guinea contacted Securewest to provide maritime security. Our client was looking for a credible deterrent to piracy attacks both on approach and departure from Lagos, Nigeria, with personnel and equipment that met global maritime standards.

Our Solution

Securewest provided an onboard maritime liaison officer to undertake BMP5 checks of the vessel prior to entering Nigerian waters, provided a crew briefing and training in counter-piracy drills including citadel exercises and to liaise with the Nigerian naval contingent once in Nigerian waters.

We co-ordinated an escort for the vessel with a top speed of 27 knots that met maritime accreditation requirements. We supplied an armed Nigerian naval team to meet the vessel at 200 nautical miles offshore of Lagos, which gave protection and an escort into Lagos and then undertook the return leg.

Securewest delivered a seamless operation which fully met our client’s requirements and put the vessel crew at ease with an assurance that everything was being done that could be done to ensure their safety.
