Weekly Maritime Incident Summary 27 January – 02 February 2026

The Securewest International Maritime Assistance Centre (MAC) recorded 16 maritime-related incidents during the reporting period of 27 January – 02 February 2026. The following incidents were recorded:

  • 27-JAN-26 Robbery – Bulk carrier PENELOPE OLDENDORFF robbed at Takoradi anchorage, Ghana.
  • 27-JAN-26 Drug Interdiction – Narco-sub intercepted 230nm off Azores, North Atlantic Ocean.
  • 27-JAN-26 Maritime Information Advisory – Captain and First Officer arrested from seized Russian-flagged tanker off Burghead, UK.
  • 28-JAN-26 Drug Interdiction – Over 347 kilos of cannabis intercepted in the port of Apapa, Nigeria.
  • 28-JAN-26 Migrant & Refugee Incident – 10 migrants intercepted off Izmir, Turkey.
  • 28-JAN-26 Migrant & Refugee Incident – 33 migrants intercepted off Izmir, Turkey.
  • 29-JAN-26 Drug Interdiction – 400kg of heroin intercepted in Port of Hamburg, Germany.
  • 29-JAN-26 Drug Interdiction – Colombian navy intercepts cocaine shipment from vessel departing Cartagena, Colombia.
  • 29-JAN-26 Maritime Information Advisory – Two oil tankers detained by Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
  • 30-JAN-26 Approach – Merchant vessel suspiciously approached off the coast of Mogadishu, Somalia.
  • 31-JAN-26 Migrant & Refugee Incident – 23 migrants apprehended off the coast of Izmir, Turkey.
  • 31-JAN-26 Migrant & Refugee Incident – Seven migrants and one migrant smuggling suspect apprehended off the coast of Çanakkale, Turkey.
  • 31-JAN-26 Maritime Information Advisory – Two missing after bulk carrier CHANG XIN 198 capsizes in rough seas.
  • 01-FEB-26 Migrant & Refugee Incident – 34 migrants apprehended off the coast of Mugla, Turkey.
  • 01-FEB-26 Migrant & Refugee Incident – 12 migrants apprehended off the coast of Çanakkale, Turkey.
