Weekly Maritime Incident Summary 11 – 17 April 2023

The Securewest International Global Response Centre (GRC) recorded 11 maritime related
incidents during the reporting period of 11 – 17 April 2023. The following incidents were
recorded:

  • 11-APR-23 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 49 migrants intercepted by U.S. Coast Guard near Puerto Rico.
  • 12-APR-23 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 25 killed in migrant boat capsize off Tunisia.
  • 12-APR-23 – General Security Warning – Missing tanker located in the Gulf of Guinea.
  • 13-APR-23 – Boarding – Underway tanker boarded in Singapore Strait.
  • 13-APR-23 – General Security Warning – North Korea fires missile into the East Sea.
  • 14-APR-23 – Drugs Interdiction – Container containing €3.85 million worth of cocaine seized in Ireland.
  • 14-APR-23 – General Security Warning – Berthed MV hit by small arms gunfire in Port Au Prince, Haiti.
  • 15-APR-23 – General Security Warning – South Korea fires warning shots after North Korean patrol boat crosses maritime border.
  • 16-APR-23 – Robbery – Anchored chemical tanker robbed in Belawan, Indonesia.
  • 16-APR-23 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 600 migrants rescued off island of Sicily, Italy.
  • 17-APR-23 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 60 migrants land in Malta after rescue in Mediterranean Sea.
