Weekly Maritime Incident Summary 16 – 22 May 2023

The Securewest International Global Response Centre (GRC) recorded 7 maritime related
incidents during the reporting period of 16 – 22 May 2023. The following incidents were
recorded:

  • 16-MAY-23 – Drugs Interdiction – Cocaine shipment discovered in Gioia Tauro, Italy.
  • 17-MAY-23 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – Migrants cross the English Channel in seven dinghies.
  • 18-MAY-23 – Drugs Interdiction – Dutch authorities seize 1600kg of cocaine at port of Rotterdam.
  • 19-MAY-23 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 30 migrants intercepted near Turks and Caicos Islands.
  • 20-MAY-23 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – U.S. Coast Guard intercepts 29 migrants off Puerto Rico.
  • 21-MAY-23 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – U.S. Coast Guard intercepts and repatriates 169 migrants rescued back to Cuba and The Bahamas.
  • 21-MAY-23 – Robbery – Bulk carrier robbed by armed perpetrators while underway in Singapore Strait.
