Weekly Maritime Incident Summary 6 – 11 June 2023

The Securewest International Global Response Centre (GRC) recorded 11 maritime related
incidents during the reporting period of 6 – 11 June 2023. The following incidents were
recorded:

  • 06-JUN-23: Drugs Interdiction – Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seize 26.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine at Karachi International Container Terminal.
  • 07-JUN-23: Drugs Interdiction – Customs seized 302 kilos of cocaine at West Port, Port Klang, Malaysia.
  • 07-JUN-23: Drugs Interdiction – Japanese police seize around 700 kilos of methamphetamine from at the Port of Tokyo, Japan.
  • 08-JUN-23: Migrant and Refugee Incident – Approximately 50 migrants intercepted by the Libyan Coastguard.
  • 08-JUN-23: Migrant and Refugee Incident – Italian Coastguard rescued over 1400 migrants off southern Italian region of Calabria.
  • 08-JUN-23: Drugs Interdiction – Croatian Police seize 745 kilos of cocaine at the Port of Rijeka, Croatia.
  • 09-JUN-23: Migrant and Refugee Incident – 132 migrants landed ashore in Almeria, SE Spain.
  • 09-JUN-23: Attempted Hijacking – Migrants attempted to hijack the Turkish ro-ro ship GALATA SEAWAYS in Tyrrhenian Sea, SW of Naples, Italy.
  • 10-JUN-23: Migrant and Refugee Incident – 154 migrants on four small boats were intercepted in the English Channel by UK Border Force.
  • 11-JUN-23: Migrant and Refugee Incident – 616 migrants were intercepted in the English Channel by UK Border Force.
  • 11-JUN-23: General Security Warning – The UKMTO issued a notice advising of live firing practice SSW of Jeddah, KSA from 12 JUN to 15 JUN 2023
