Weekly Maritime Summary 16 – 22 August 2022

The Securewest International Global Response Centre (GRC) recorded 10 maritime related incidents during the reporting period of 16 – 22 August 2022.

The following incidents were recorded:

  • 17-AUG-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 127 migrants intercepted at sea by Tunisian coast guards.
  • 17-AUG-22 – Robbery – Anchored bulk carrier robbed at Belawan Anchorage, Indonesia.
  • 17-AUG-22 – Drugs Interdiction – 2m amphetamine pills seized in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
  • 17-AUG-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – Approximately 150 migrants reach the Greek island of
    Kythera on two sailboats.
  • 17-AUG-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 20 migrants rescued from ship adrift off Lampedusa
    Island, Central Mediterranean.
  • 18-AUG-22 – Robbery – Dinghy and outboard motor stolen in Cabrita Bay, Curacao.
  • 18-AUG-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 101 migrants rescued by NGO vessel in the
    Mediterranean.
  • 18-AUG-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 67 migrants reach the Greek island of Kythera.
  • 21-AUG-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 106 migrants rescued by NGO vessel in the
    Mediterranean.
  • 22-AUG-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 300 migrants intercepted in English Channel by RNLI.
Robbery IncidentRobbery: Theft from a vessel or from persons aboard the vessel.
Migrant IncidentMigrant and Refugee Incident: This could involve Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, or information about a boat capsizing and people drowning, or an attack on the group.
Drugs InterdictionDrugs Interdiction: Focused on interrupting illegal drugs smuggled by sea, usually a large number of drugs are seized.
