Weekly Maritime Summary 20 – 26 September 2022

The Securewest International Global Response Centre (GRC) recorded maritime related incidents during the reporting period of 20 – 26 September 2022.

The following incidents were recorded:

  • 20-SEP-22 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 193 migrants were rescued while attempting to reach the Canary Islands from West Africa.
  • 21-SEP-22 Robbery – Container ship robbed at Suez Anchorage.
  • 21-SEP-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 667 migrants in 15 boats intercepted in English Channel.
  • 23-SEP-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 38 migrants were rescued from the Black Sea while attempting to reach Romania.
  • 23-SEP-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 61 migrants drowned in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Syria coast.
  • 24-SEP-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 1,100 migrants crossed the English Channel in small boats.
  • 24-SEP-22 – General Security Warning – UKMTO issued NOTICE 003/SEP/2022 advising that aircraft live firing was scheduled on 24-SEP 04:30 to 06:30 UTC in the Arabian Sea.


Robbery IncidentRobbery: Theft from a vessel or from persons aboard the vessel.
Migrant IncidentMigrant and Refugee Incident: This could involve Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, or information about a boat capsizing and people drowning, or an attack on the group.
Maritime warningGeneral Security Warning: Warnings/Incidents which do not fit in the other categories but enhance the situational awareness.
