Weekly Maritime Summary 22 – 28 March 2022

The Securewest International Global Response Centre (GRC) recorded 7 maritime related incidents during the reporting period of 22 – 28 March 2022.

The following incidents were recorded:

  • 22-MAR-22 – General Security Warning – MDAT issue WARNING 002/MAR/2022 advising of an increased threat of piracy off Nigeria.
  • 23-MAR-22 – Robbery – Anchored bulk carrier robbed in Indonesia.
  • 23-MAR-22 – Drugs Interdiction – 350kg of cocaine seized in Sri Lanka.
  • 25-MAR-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – 30 migrants rescued off Libya.
  • 27-MAR-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – The bodies of two migrants recovered off Morocco.
  • 28-MAR-22 – Migrant and Refugee Incident – Spanish authorities land rescued migrants in Lanzarote.
  • 28-MAR-22 – Drugs Interdiction – 15kg of cocaine found in Tasmania, Australia.

Robbery IncidentRobbery: Theft from a vessel or from persons aboard the vessel.
Drugs InterdictionDrugs Interdiction: Focused on interrupting illegal drugs smuggled by sea, usually a large number of drugs are seized.
Migrant IncidentMigrant and Refugee Incident: This could involve Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, or information about a boat capsizing and people drowning, or an attack on the group.
