Weekly Maritime Incident Summary 16 – 22 December 2025

The Securewest International Maritime Assistance Centre (MAC) recorded 16 maritime-related incidents during the reporting period of 16 – 22 December 2025. The following incidents were recorded:

  • 16-DEC-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 74 migrants intercepted in the English Channel.
  • 17-DEC-25 Drugs Interdiction – Over 4 tons of cocaine discovered on a fishing vessel in the Atlantic Ocean.
  • 17-DEC-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 45 migrants intercepted off Izmir, Turkey.
  • 17-DEC-25 Boarding – Liberian flagged bulk carrier boarded in Singapore Strait.
  • 17-DEC-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 497 migrants intercepted in the English Channel.
  • 17-DEC-25 Drugs Interdiction – U.S. Coast Guard offload over 12 tonnes of seized cocaine in San Diego, USA.
  • 18-DEC-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 18 migrants intercepted off Izmir, Turkey.
  • 18-DEC-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 40 migrants intercepted off Izmir, Turkey.
  • 18-DEC-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 14 migrants intercepted off Izmir, Turkey.
  • 18-DEC-25 Drugs Interdiction – 417 kilos of suspected cocaine intercepted in Hong Kong, China.
  • 19-DEC-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – More than 540 migrants rescued off Gavdos, Greece.
  • 19-DEC-25 Attack – Russian tanker QENDIL attacked in the Mediterranean Sea.
  • 20-DEC-25 Migrant and Refugee Incident – 803 migrants intercepted in the English Channel.
  • 20-DEC-25 General Security Warning – Underway oil tanker CENTURIES seized off Barbados, Caribbean Sea.
  • 21-DEC-25 Migrant & Refugee Incident – 41 migrants intercepted off the coast of Izmir. Turkey.
  • 22-DEC-25 General Security Warning – One killed in US military strike against alleged ‘narco-trafficking’ vessel.
