Weekly Maritime Incident Summary 23 – 29 May 2023

The Securewest International Global Response Centre (GRC) recorded 12 maritime related
incidents during the reporting period of 23 – 29 May 2023. The following incidents were
recorded:

  • 23-MAY-23: General Security Warning – Live firing exercise offshore Jeddah.
  • 24-MAY-23 :Robbery – Tanker robbed at Chittagong, Bangladesh.
  • 24-MAY-23: Migrant & Refugee Incident – Migrant vessel in distress offshore Malta.
  • 24-MAY-23: Attack – Russian Navy ship attacked by drones NNE of Karaburan Port, Turkey.
  • 24-MAY-23: Migrant & Refugee Incident – 50 migrants intercepted in the English Channel
  • 25-May-23 : Migrant & Refugee Incident – 50 Migrants rescued in the English Channel
  • 25-MAY-23: Robbery – Bulk carrier robbed north of Bintan Island, Singapore Strait.
  • 25-MAY-23: Drugs Interdiction – Maltese authorities seize 270kg of cocaine at Malta Freeport.
  • 25-MAY-23: Migrant and Refugee Incident – 59 Migrants arrive in Cyprus from Syria.
  • 26-MAY-23: Migrant & Refugee Incident – Three migrants die, 12 missing in Aegean Sea.
  • 27-MAY-23: Migrant & Refugee Incident – 600 plus migrants rescued off the coast of Sicily
  • 28-MAY-23: General Security Warning – Live firing military exercise in Arabian Sea
